Feedback in technical and scientific experiments

InterAct - a project for cross-location teaching

The project Feedback in Experiments is concerned with investigating the effectiveness of different forms and types of feedback in technical and scientific experiments. Feedback is an essential component in teaching and instructional processes (Narciss 2006). The project is funded within the framework of inter-site teaching (InterAct) at RPTU (RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau) and takes place in cooperation between the locations Kaiserslautern, represented by M.Ed. Pia Schäfer and Landau, represented by Dr.-Ing. Silke Feifel .

The theoretical foundation draws on existing expertise from the EELBA and DEFINE projects, among others, in which the topic of feedback was used both in teacher training courses and in training courses for trainees.

Feedback in technical and scientific experiments is aimed at students studying to become teachers in the STEM subjects and metal and electrical engineering as well as engineering sciences in the departments of mechanical engineering, process engineering and electrical engineering. By identifying similarities and differences in the feedback from learning groups of different school types and grades, both student teachers and engineering students can benefit from each other's experience and knowledge. This interdisciplinary cooperation can lead to a holistic and multifaceted view of feedback in technical and scientific experiments and thus contribute to a further improvement of learning and teaching practices.

As part of the project, various offers for students have been created:

  • an interactive lecture on the topic of making feedback effective for learning, which took place for the first time in WiSe 23/24 and was offered again in WiSe 24/25.
  • a self-study course on the topic of feedback, which can be completed in the OLAT learning management system for a more in-depth examination of the topic of feedback. The course is still under development.
