In May 2023, the Stifterverband organized a future workshop on the topic of rethinking teacher education . Many different stakeholders from a wide range of fields came together to gather ideas for a master plan for future-oriented teacher education. Participants included people from educational research as well as educational practice across all three phases of teacher training: (1) studies, (2) preparatory service, (3) further education and training. Accordingly, stakeholders from universities, study seminars, state institutes, the responsible ministries, but also student teachers, trainee teachers and teachers were represented.

Based on the results of this meeting, the Stifterverband published a master plan in November 2023. This contains 75 measures for the teacher training of the future, which are summarized in the following five sections

• Tapping into new target groups
• Improving the quality of training
• Improving the institutional framework and organizational structures
• Creating transparent professional job profiles and attractive development opportunities
• Optimization of political control options
