For children ages 10–16, Sergey Mukhametov will provide an introduction to programming as well as the basics of data collection and processing. As part of a multi-day course during the school break, students will apply the knowledge they’ve gained to carry out their own small research project using environmental data they’ve collected themselves. Through the hands-on use of sensor arrays they have assembled themselves (based on the senseBox environmental monitoring stations) and the associated data analysis in their own programs (primarily programming in the Blockly environment), students can directly engage with the role of Computer Science, algorithms, modeling, and programming, as well as inquiry-based learning—including their own data collection—in both urban and natural settings.

The senseBoxes are used for this purpose; they can be assembled as microcontrollers to create environmental monitoring stations.
