Hacking School - a LehrePlus project

"Hacking School" is an innovative cooperation project between RPTU and the Frauenlob-Gymnasium in Mainz. As part of this project, student teachers at RPTU take over the lessons of around 550 pupils at Frauenlob-Gymnasium for several days under the guidance of their professors. Hacking School offers all participating students access to the practical field of school relevant to teacher training and thus to valuable, real-life practical and learning experiences. As a result, teacher training is closely interlinked with the second phase. In the university courses, students develop teaching concepts which they can then implement and evaluate in real life at school. Various seminars from the Department of Education and the didactics departments of chemistry, geography and technology are involved. In addition, students take the opportunity to write their final theses as part of the project. Students from other universities and academic staff at RPTU will also be actively involved. The theme of the project week is "Education for Sustainable Development" (ESD) and thus follows the recommendations of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK). As part of the LehrePlus project, the costs incurred by the students and the WiMAs involved at RPTU in Kaiserslautern will be covered. The funding of these measures enables the students to go on an excursion to the school in Mainz and to stay on site for the entire project week. This ensures that the practical and scientific objectives of the project can be fully achieved.

Hacking School 2.0

Following a successful pilot of Hacking School in 2024, the 2025 project entered its second round. Once again, students and staff at RPTU had the opportunity to conduct and evaluate lessons as part of courses, theses or scientific projects. Hacking School 2.0 took place again under the motto "ESD - Education for Sustainable Development" at the Frauenlob-Gymnasium in Mainz, from October 6 to 10, 2025.
